The top portion of a skull was discovered around 10:45 a.m. near a stream bed, according to police. The age of the bone could not be immediately determined.
An archaeologist from the state Department of Land and Natural Resources' State Historic Preservation Devision was unable to determine whether the bone was ancient, and said the skull appeared to be that of a small-framed Asian woman or a child, police said.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the discovery.
Stacy Ball, 39, who has no local address, was arrested Friday in Aiea. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Police said a security officer making checks at about 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 28 discovered a damaged door handle and saw the suspect inside a vacant office with property from adjacent offices scattered about.
Ball was identified from a photo lineup.
Anthony Hartz of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates was indicted Dec. 8 on charges of attempted murder and terroristic threatening. Police arrested Hartz on Thursday and are holding him in lieu of $50,000 bail.
On Oct. 26, Hartz allegedly drove a sport utility vehicle into Isaac Couchie, 33, of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, who was riding a motorcycle. Then Hartz hit Couchie in the head with a football-size rock, police said.
Police charged Hartz on Oct. 29, but prosecutors took the case to the grand jury after delays during the District Court preliminary hearing.
Big Island police are asking the public to help find a 50-year-old Hilo woman missing since Thursday.
Emilia Walraven is 5 feet 8 inches tall, about 120 pounds, with long black hair and brown eyes.
