The University of Hawaii honored seven faculty members last week with the Frances Davis Award for excellence in undergraduate teaching. The awardees were Joanne Birch, a graduate teaching assistant and doctoral candidate in botany at UH-Manoa; Abegail Kopf, an instructor in respiratory therapy at Kapiolani Community College; Heather Kurano, a Spanish instructor at UH-Manoa; Kelikokauaikekai Hoe, an assistant professor in Hawaiian studies at Windward Community College; Lisa Parr, an instructor of marine science at UH-Hilo; Taupouri Tangaro, an assistant professor and department chairman of Hawaiian lifestyles and humanities at Hawaii Community College; and Stephanie Wilson, an associate professor of business administration at UH-West Oahu.

Lynne Goto Uyema, director of the Screening Intake Division of the Honolulu Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, received the 2009 Citizenship Award from the Honolulu Police Department. She is the liaison between the Honolulu Prosecutor's Office and the HPD to ensure that solid cases are conferred and taken to trial.

"Shining Stars" runs Sunday.
