Question: What ever happened to the case of the 18-year-old Ewa Beach woman who was run over by a car on the H-1 freeway in July?

Did she jump out of the car she was riding in, or was she pushed?

Answer: Police are still investigating the case of Natasha Taualai, who died after exiting a moving car July 21 as it traveled westbound on the H-1 freeway near the Waipahu Street offramp.

Taualai was the passenger of a silver Mercury two-door sedan driven by her 26-year-old boyfriend.

At 12:10 a.m. she appeared to have jumped out of the moving car, police have said. Taualai was run over by a car driven by a 65-year-old Ewa Beach man.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office found she died of multiple internal injuries due to the motor vehicle collision, but did not determine whether she jumped or was pushed.

The Honolulu Police Department's Vehicular Homicide Section turned over the case to the Criminal Investigation Division's Homicide Detail. The case remains open.

Relatives of Taualai said the boyfriend told her family that she opened the car door and jumped out.

He was "just crying and crying" when he told the family of the news, her cousin said.

Her boyfriend told her family that she appeared distraught and told him she did not want to go to her Ewa Beach home.

Taualai's cousins said she kept her relationship with her boyfriend hidden from most of her family.

Taualai's aunt said that she said goodbye to her little cousins and grandmother before leaving to go to the movies but that there was something unusual about it, a finality to her goodbye.
