Stanford golfer Chun earns medalist honor

Stanford senior Mari Chun (Kamehameha '05) probably wishes she could play every tournament in Sammamish, Wash.
For the second time in three years, Chun earned individual medalist honors at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational on Wednesday, posting the low score of the tournament to help the Cardinal win by 16 strokes over Oregon.
Chun entered the final round trailing by a stroke, but had three birdies in posting a 33 on the front nine to catapult herself into the lead.
She finished with an even-par 72 to win the tournament by four strokes. She posted a 3-over 75 in the first round before coming back to shoot 71 in Round 2.
Both of her career victories have come on the same course. The Cardinal return home to host the Stanford Intercollegiate Oct. 17-19.
» Boise State junior Iris Ocariza (Moanalua '06) tied a career-best with a 3-under 69 in the final round of the Heather Farr/CU Classic in Broomfield, Colo. She shot rounds of 78, 73 and 69 to finish in a tie for 25th place.
» Arizona senior Amanda Wilson (Waiakea '05) shot a team-low 73 in the final round of the Windy City Collegiate Championships to finish in a tie for ninth place. Wilson shot rounds of 75 and 76 before closing with a 1-over 73.
» Willamette senior Whitney Ueno (Hilo '05) rallied from a two-stroke deficit on the final two holes to shoot a 77 and finish in a tie for first place at the George Fox Invitational.
» Santa Clara sophomore Miki Ueoka (Kauai '07) shot rounds of 83, 75 and 79 to finish in a tie for eighth in the Coast BMW College Challenge in Nipomo, Calif. Junior Jamie Nonaka (Punahou '06) finished in a tie for 16th place and freshman Tammy Surtees (Hawaii Prep '08) shot a 246 to finish in a tie for 19th place.

» Southern California senior linebacker Kaluka Maiava (Baldwin '05) had eight tackles in a 44-10 rout of Oregon. Ducks sophomore quarterback Jeremiah Masoli (Saint Louis '06) was 18-for-29 for 156 yards with an interception and rushed for 19 yards.» Oregon State senior Al Afalava (Kahuku '05) returned an interception for a touchdown and had three tackles in a 31-28 loss to Utah. Utes junior linebacker Kepa Gaison (Kamehameha '05) had six tackles while Beavers backup safety Suaesi Tuimaunei (Kahuku '06) chipped in two tackles.
» Washington junior defensive end Daniel Te'o-Nesheim (Hawaii Prep '05) had eight tackles and three sacks in a 48-14 loss to Arizona this year. The three sacks are the only three recorded by the 0-5 Huskies all season.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
» Pacific (Ore.) freshman Kelsy Takashima (Molokai '08) hammered a career-high 22 kills to lead the Boxers to a five-set victory over Willamette. Takshima only committed two errors and hit .500 for the match, and teammate Mari Kondo (Mid-Pacific '07) added 20 digs. Lia Nishikura (Mililani '07) added 11 assists and Christina Chandler (Leilehua '07) had seven.» University of Redlands junior setter Kelina Smith (Waiakea '06) had 33 assists and 14 digs in a five-set victory over Whittier. Senior libero Dory Baga (University '05) chipped in with four digs. Poets' freshman Brittni Woodward (University '08) finished with 11 digs, one ace and a block.
» St. John's senior LenaYee (Moanalua '05) finished with a team-high 18 digs in a four-set loss to Marquette.
» Central Washington sophomore Brandie Vea (Kalani '07) finished with a team-high 30 digs as the Wildcats came from behind to defeat Northwest Nazarene in five sets.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
» Sisters Kahili (Kalaheo '07) and Lauki'i Cheng (Kalaheo '08) have each started all nine games for Wisconsin-Parkside this season and have helped the Rangers to an 8-0-1 record. Kahili has one goal and one assist and Laukii has three assists for the Rangers, who are ranked No. 8 in Division II.
MEN'S WATER POLO
» Loyola Marymount sophomore Andrew Aki (Punahou '06) scored two goals and goalkeeper Joseph Svec (Punahou '06) made two-second half saves in a 19-4 win over Harvard. Junior Egen Atkinson (Iolani '06) scored a goal for the Crimson.
