2010 Maui field announced

The EA SPORTS Maui Invitational yesterday announced the eight-team field during Thanksgiving week in 2010. Connecticut, Kentucky, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Virginia, Washington, Wichita State and host Chaminade are scheduled to compete in the 27th edition of the tournament.

Rainbow Wahine sign softball recruits

Two softball recruits signed letters of intent to play for Hawaii for the 2010 season -- Jessica Iwata of Kauai High and Brittani Bertussi of El Cajon, Calif.

Iwata is a middle infielder who hit .467 as a junior shortstop for the Red Raiders.

Bertussi is also a middle infielder. She led Granite Hills High to the 2008 CIF Division I title.

Hawaii judokas medal at youth tourney

Judokas from Hawaii earned five medals, including four gold, at last week's Hatashita International in Toronto.

Less than two months after winning a silver medal at the U.S. Senior Open, 14-year-old Mindy Chow won the under-17 cadet girls 52kg division.

Taking gold in juvenile boys competition were: Chaeden Grace-Reyes in the under-15 55kg division; Dane Pestano in the under15 66-plus kg class; and Kulana Salera in the under-15 50kg group.

In juvenile girls, Jessica Oda took the bronze at 32kg.
