Alexander's INT streak ends

Hawaii quarterback Greg Alexander's streak of passes without an interception ended at 151, as he threw a pick on his last pass of the game.

The streak went back to the first game of the season, which Alexander started at Florida.

Alexander completed 19 of 34 passes for 315 yards with two touchdowns. He has 10 touchdown passes and three interceptions for the season. UH's four quarterbacks have combined for 20 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

Leonard in right place again

Senior defensive lineman Josh Leonard has a knack for being at the right place at the right time.

Leonard collected his fourth career fumble recovery and first of the season when Washington State's Kevin Lopina fumbled a snap late in the second quarter at the Cougars' own 4.

He admittedly didn't have to work very hard for this one.

"All of a sudden I saw a ball right between my legs, so I sat back and just grabbed it," Leonard said.

His play set up kicker Dan Kelly for a 22-yard field goal and a 17-3 lead at the half.

Things work out for Warriors

A blocked field-goal attempt turned into a first down for Hawaii on a bizarre play in the fourth quarter.

Kelly's 47-yard attempt was blocked by Matt Eichelberger, and Devin Giles recovered the loose ball. After breaking a couple of tackles to keep his meandering return alive, Giles tried to lateral the ball to Chima Nwachukwu, who couldn't handle the pitch. UH lineman Lafu Tuioti-Mariner fell on the ball to give UH possession at the Cougars 23.

"I just did what I had to do, get the ball back," Tuioti-Mariner said.

Rather than attempt another field goal from the WSU 13 later in the drive, the Warriors went for it on fourth and 11 and gave the ball back with an interception.

UH finishes second in WAC

The Western Athletic Conference season ended yesterday with Hawaii finishing in a three-way tie for second place. Nevada's 35-31 comeback win over Louisiana Tech left both teams at 5-3 along with the Warriors. Hawaii, which completed its league schedule the previous week with a win over Idaho, defeated both the Wolf Pack and Bulldogs in October.

WAC champion Boise State completed an undefeated regular season by beating Fresno State on Friday.

The All-WAC teams will be announced tomorrow.

Series moves to Washington

Last night's matchup began a three-game series between Hawaii and Washington State.

The Warriors will travel to Washington next season to face the Cougars on Sept. 12. The game is scheduled to be held in Pullman, but might be moved to Seattle.

The third game is scheduled for 2011 in Honolulu.

UH is 14-34 all-time against Pac-10 teams, beating a team from that league for the third straight year, and 2-2 against Washington State.
