Chin-Brown defeat champs

The team of David Chin and Gary Brown beat defending champions Andrew Feldmann and Larry Stubblefield 2 and 1 in the quarterfinals of the Aloha Section PGA 4-Ball Match Play Championships yesterday at Oahu Country Club.

The teams of Matt Pakkala and Kevin Carll, Regan Lee and Beau Yokomoto, and Kevin Hayashi and Lance Taketa also moved on to today's semifinals.

BYUH sweeps volleyball match

Kylee Nawahine posted 15 kills to lead Brigham Young-Hawaii past Academy of Art 29-27, 25-15, 25-19 in a PacWest Conference volleyball match last night in Laie.

The Seasiders improved to 12-10 and 8-4 in the PacWest. The Urban Knights fell to 16-8, 4-4.

» Alex Shearer's 13 kills paced Dixie State past host Chaminade 23-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-15.

Dixie State improved to 13-5 and 7-2. Chaminade fell to 4-18 and 2-10.

 

Anderson leads HPU to soccer win

Dyanne Anderson scored two goals and added an assist as Hawaii Pacific beat Dominican 4-1 in a women's soccer match yesterday at Atherton Field on the HPU Hawaii Loa Campus in Kaneohe.

HPU, which also got scores from Jamie Hirai and Taylor Hoesterey, improved to 7-5-1 and 5-3 in the PacWest Conference.

» Chance Bukoski scored the decisive goal in the 89th minute as the HPU men edged visiting Dominican 2-1.

» Carly Haycock scored the goal as conference-leading Dixie State beat the Brigham Young-Hawaii women 1-0 in Laie.

» Jordan Roylance scored three goals as the Dixie State men beat BYUH 3-2 in double overtime, also in Laie.

 

UH-Hilo golfer ties for 6th

Neil Cabico of the Hawaii-Hilo men's golf team finished at even-par 144 to tie for sixth at the Sonoma State University Invitational at Santa Rosa, Calif., yesterday.

Chico State finished with a team score of 578 to finish first. Matthew Garcia of Academy of Art was medalist with a 138 total.

The Vulcans tied for ninth.

» UHH's Nicole Aki tied for fifth in the women's tournament at 11 over with rounds of 79 and 76.

Western Washington, led by medalist Claire Rachor (79-70—149), took the team title.
