Owens, Nakama to speak at QB Club
Former Hawaii football player and current Colorado Rush wide receiver Chad Owens will join Honolulu Advertiser sports writer Wes Nakama as speakers at the Honolulu Quarterback Club weekly luncheon tomorrow at the Pagoda Hotel's International Ballroom.While at Hawaii, Owens tied the NCAA record for most touchdowns scored on kick returns and set the NCAA record for the most touchdowns scored on punt returns in a season. Owens will talk about the challenges he's encountered in professional football.
Nakama will report on the latest developments in high school athletics.
The luncheon is open to the general public and begins at 11:30 a.m. with the program starting at noon.
Grand Canyon eases past UH-Hilo
Grand Canyon University's lone goal proved to be enough as the Antelopes defeated Hawaii-Hilo 1-0 yesterday in a women's soccer game in Phoenix.Tessa Chesser scored the winning goal on an Elias Nichole assist. The Antelopes outshot the Vulcans 15-3.
UH-Hilo's Randi Walters finished with eight saves.
» Dixie State shut out Chaminade 2-0 at Saint Louis field to improve to 11-5-1. Erin Beeston scored in the 55th minute to give the Rebels the advantage and added a second goal in the 88th minute to seal the win.
The Rebels outshot the Swords 30-3. Chaminade's Marissa Minor finished with 17 saves.
» Sally Olsson scored from 30 yards out in the 48th minute to lead Notre Dame de Namur to a 1-0 victory yesterday over host Hawaii Pacific.
The Sea Warriors fall to 3-13 overall and 2-8 in PacWest Conference play.

First-place Hawaii Pacific battled to a 2-2 draw against second -place Notre Dame de Namur yesterday in a men's soccer matchup in Kaneohe.Goals from Chance Bukoski and Linus Ekden put the Sea Warriors (7-2-1) ahead 2-0 at the end of the first half.
The Argos (6-1-2) answered in the second, scoring in the 68th and 71st minutes to erase Hawaii Pacific's lead.
The Sea Warriors play Dixie State on Wednesday.
» Despite being outshot 10-8, Hawaii-Hilo managed a 2-0 victory over Grand Canyon yesterday in Hilo.
