The New City Nissan Girls Volleyball State Championships begin Wednesday at various sites around Oahu. The tournament concludes with the championship match on Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Kahuku swept through the Oahu Interscholastic Association with a 16-0 record to grab the No. 2 seed, Waiakea won all 16 of its Big Island Interscholastic Federation games for the No. 3 spot and Kamehameha-Maui went 13-0 in the Maui Interscholastic League to take the last seeded berth. Kamehameha is the No. 1 seed after going through the ILH with a 17-2 record.
Hawaii Baptist (16-2) is the top seed in the Division II tournament, followed by Molokai (11-2), Kapolei (16-0) and Hilo (16-2).

Kazunori Yamamoto improved to 3-0 with the win for Waikiki (15-2). Cliff Flagello blew the save and took the loss for West Oahu (13-14).
» The North Shore Honu broke a 15-inning scoreless streak to beat the Honolulu Sharks 3-1 yesterday at Les Murakami Stadium.
The Honu improved to 12-15, and the Sharks dropped to 14-13. The league takes today off.
Colleen Burns scored her first career goal to tie it for UH, and 3 minutes later the Vandals booted the ball into their own goal for the winning margin.
The Rainbow Wahine finish the regular season at 8-6-4 with three straight wins. They will be the third seed when the WAC tournament begins on Thursday in Reno, Nev.
Patacchia advanced to the semifinals, where he lost to Bede Durbidge of Australia, 12.33 to 8.50.
Durbidge went on to beat Jeremy Flores of France in the final of the Association of Surfing Professionals World Championship Tour event, 17.76 to 9.86.
Durbidge won $30,000 for the victory.
Seben led the Vulcans to three wins last week, averaging 4.67 points per game. For the week, she hit .349 and had 44 kills, six service aces and 12 block assists for 56 points.
Bukoski is soccer player of week
Hawaii Pacific's Chance Bukoski was picked as the conference's soccer player of the week yesterday.
Bukoski scored two game-winning goals last week to lead the Sea Warriors into first place.
Bukoski finished the week with eight points on three goals and two assists. He had the deciding goals in wins over Chaminade and Brigham Young-Hawaii.
